About the Project

The Collins Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Collins name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Collins name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Collins's), by time period (18th Century Collins's), or by topic (Collins DNA, Collins Occupations, Collins Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

I have Collins who remarried into Hughey but I can't seem to find them. Very interested in discovering.
Searching for parents and ancestors of Mary Jane Collins sited on York Co.,Pennsylvania,USA along with her husband Jacob C Berger. She was possibly employed as a cook for Children's Home of York, PA. The children were placed in the Orphan home due to Jacob's death from disease during the Civil War. Margaret and Emily Berger were released from the home 1873 and 1875 and moved to Chestertown, Maryland, USA. The remaining siblings also relocated to Kent Co.,MD, USA. I'm not sure how long Mary worked in the kitchen. I've not been able to locate Mary Berger anywhere, not in Kent Co.,MD, USA or on Find A Grave. I did mtDNA full sequence test, I'm H3ae which is 96% British Isles. Thank you. Debbie

I was born a Collins, my father being Hubert Walter Collins (1892-1988), b. Holly Springs, Wake, NC. We do have Y DNA done for someone of his line. We go back as far as Britton Collins (b abt 1775, maybe Dinwiddie County, Virginia). We do have a Y DNA match with someone who shares haplogroup J-M172 . . . our cousin matches another DNA carrier named Collins (Craig Collins) whose most distant known ancestor is Littleberry Lee Collins (1765-1832, Virginia), so we are Collins cousins -- almost 90% confidence that my distant cousin, Frank, and and Craig's dad have a common male ancestor within 9 generations--which does not mean for sure that Littleberry and Britton were brothers, but they were at least cousins or second cousins . . . . I hope i can join this name study. b collins shafer, Cupertino, CA
